story one: i was working in a money job. that is, a job
that had to do primarily with money. it was in an office. Jesus came in. i got
up to follow Him. someone said to me, "you're going to lose your
job!" i said, "i don't give a good goddamn!"
story two: i was walking through a shopping center, through the skyway, on the
second level, i think, and there was Jesus with a few followers. i offered him
a nickel. He took it, and looked at me.
the church (heyday) lyrics: and this hotel's a zoo. you've got to be some
creature to get a room in here. you can live like a king on a throne of tears.
it's a mighty long way from the innocent years.
commentary: Jesus wants all of your devotion, not just your money. your money
is good, give ten percent of your income, and go to church, attend church,
attend worship, but to Jesus that money that you're giving is a bit like
offering him five cents if your heart is not also being given to Him and His truth.
commentary: there are those who want to rely on money itself for making a
living. this is a bit like charging an interest rate of 25 percent, let's say,
usury, and making a living off those poor people who are foolish enough to pay
25 percent on their credit cards. that's not living life according to what
Jesus wants for you. usury is not God's will. God wants you to be in debt to no
man.
